About me
Hello there! This is Julia, the real human behind The Intellectual Chaos. When this blog went online, it was merely a hobby, a way to practice my English, a way to tell my stories when I didn’t dare to bother anyone with them, and foremost a reason to do what I love: writing. My first blog was on Tumblr (probably still is) and was called “What a Site to Behold” because already back in 2011 I loved all sorts of puns. Still do.
Many years of blogging and major development later, here I am, officially pursuing a career as a freelancing writer. How exciting! And it’s time I put my name and stuff out there. If you like what you read, tell everyone, spread the word, hire me. I love deep diving into any topic, become a temporary expert and share my enthusiasm – always a bit tongue-in-cheek if allowed. I’m fluent in English and German and I can’t decide which language I prefer because both offer so many rhetorical opportunities. And puns. Did I mention I love those?
A quick history of me: I started reading when I was 5. And I never stopped. And writing followed soon after. When I was 8, I won in a young person’s crime novel competition. Throughout my adult life, I’ve been continually writing inside and outside my little blogger sphere. I’ve worked as a freelancing journalist for the local newspaper around here (Badische Zeitung), I continuously write short stories, personalized speeches and poems, opeds and essays . I’ve written several program notes, symphonic and dramatic, I am the voice of the Black Forest Brass Band and in the process discovered I love concert moderation and talking in front of an audience. I have tutored, proof read, translated, and edited texts in both English and German – it started with helping out friends here and there and has become a welcome occasional (paid) treat for my inner teacher.
When I’m not reading or writing, I’m either out hiking or walking my dog, or cuddled up inside with my dog about to cancel our plans. I love opera and orchestral music and I play the French Horn. I my not be the best, but I am an avid and keen player with a decent embochure and just happy to play, may it be orchestras, bands, other bands, ensembles, or else. If you ever need an extra- give me a call.
